Short description and remarks

  • Engineering Point of view :

'Shell and Tube' Heat Exchanger are widely spread in the field of chemical engineering.Still it is not clear to arrange the tubes inside the apparatus in order to get a optimal heat-transfer-behaviour.Beginning from a sample configuration with only one tube (Rad=1.5) we studied cases for 2X2 upto 5x5 tube arrangement for constant circumference as well as constant area. My task is Fluid flow calculation in a square of 4 units with 3 circles in a row, accounting to 9 as a total number. The circles are of 0.5 radii. The circles are placed at equidistant from each other and the first circle in the configuration is located at x=0.75,y=0.75.

  • Mathematical point of view :

We studied a 2D cutplane of the above described apparatus.Fluid flow calculation in a square of 4 units with one circle of radius 1.5,located at the center of square i.e., at x=2 & y=2. calculation starts from rest. The calculations are observed with Reynolds number, Re=1,000. This simulation is part of a Software-Praktikum at the University of Dortmund in 2004'.
