Short description and remarks

  • Engineering point of view :

'Shell and Tube'-Heat-Exchanger are widely spread in the field of chemical engineering. Still it is not clear how to arrange the tubes inside the appartus in order to get an optimal heat-transfer behaviour. Beginning from a simple configuration with only one tube(Rad=1.5; Area=Pi*Rad^2). We studied cases for 2x2 through 5x5 tube arrangemnets for constant circumference as well as constant area.

  • Mathematical point of view :

We studied a 2D cutplane of the above described apparatus. Fluid flow calculation in a square of 4 units with 25 circles each of radius 0.3, placed equidistantly inside the square. The calculation starts from rest state. The flow is observed with the Reynolds number, Re=1,000. This simulation is part of a Software-Praktikum at the University of Dortmund in the year 2004.
