Short description and remarks

This simulation by H. Oswald shows the flow through a channel around a cylinder. The configuration is described in Benchmark Computations of Laminar Flow Around a Cylinder by M. Schäfer and S.Turek.

The height and width of the channel is H=0.41, and the side length and diameter of the cylinder are D=0.1. The Reynolds number is about Re=100.

Visualization

  • Pressure

Visualization via shaded pressure cut plane. This is an animated VRML file and you need a VRML 2.0 Viewer.

  • Velocity

Visualization via Particle Tracing as an MPEG video (about 11 MB), and via vector plots. Note that the local velocity is only indicated by the use of colour, not by the length of the vectors. This is again an animated VRML file.
