Jet flow in a box at low Reynolds number

Short description and remarks

Jet flow into a box with additional slow inflow from the left edge. The outflow is in the lower part of the right edge. For this low Reynolds number, the flow starting from rest gets steady. This simulation has to be compared with the similar `Jet flow into a box' configurations in the Album, including higher Reynolds numbers and different types of in- and outflows.

Visualization

  • Distribution of temperature/concentration via Boussinesq model

Visualization via tracing of concentration, starting from both inlets ("slow" left edge and a "fast" small upper inlet) in the left column (2.1 MB). Here, the color red means `value of concentration +1' while blue stands for 'size of concentration -1'. Consequently, the green regions represent the mixed zones (concentration almost 0!). In the second column, we only visualize the flow coming from the small upper inlet (1.8 MB). Then, color blue indicates the regions where the concentration is 0!

  • Pressure

Visualization via pressure plots, shaded (first, 1.9 MB) and via isolines (second, 3.8 MB).

  • Streamfunction

Visualization via streamline plots, shaded (first, 1.8 MB) and via isolines (second, 8 MB).

  • Velocity

Visualization via vector plots (vectors, 7.1 MB).
