Flow in a Lid Driven Cavity (length = 3) at medium Reynolds number

Short description and remarks
Visualization

Short description and remarks

This simulation by H. Oswald shows the flow in a Lid Driven Cavity. A similar configuration is described in a `well-known' book by M.Deville et al. presenting the results of a certain benchmark for this specific configuration.

The height and length of the channel is H=L=1, while the width is W=3. The Reynolds number is about Re=3,000. We start with a fully developed solution.

Visualization

  • Distribution of temperature/concentration via Boussinesq model

Visualization via distribution of the temperature in the flow field, starting from the heated walls. The first two columns represent QUICKTIME movies which can be downloaded (compressed, 0.5 MB and 2.4 MB), while the third column is an MPEG video (about 1 MB).

  • Velocity

Visualization via vector plots. The first icon represents a QUICKTIME movie which can be downloaded (compressed, 3.1 MB), while the second icon stands for an MPEG video (about 0.8 MB, the colours are somewhat strange!).
