Short description and remarks

Flow around a truck at medium Reynolds number. This simulation is part of a comparative study (by students during the FEATFLOW Praktikum 1995/96 at Heidelberg) with the aim to figure out the influence of the wind shield on the top of the truck, for different configurations. Not very surprisingly, the qualitative result was that the wind shield leads to 10 % less drag forces on the average. See also the results for the low Reynolds number situations.

Visualization

  • Distribution of temperature/concentration via Boussinesq model

Visualization via tracing of concentration, starting from the inlet (first, second and third (as zoom), with different color maps, 1.7 MB, 2.0 MB and 2.0 MB), and via temperature distribution, starting from the (interior) heated shape of the truck (fourth and fifth, different color maps, 1.3 MB and 1.9 MB).

  • Pressure

Visualization via pressure plots, shaded (first, 2.0 MB) and via isolines (second, 5.3 MB).

  • Streamfunction

Visualization via streamline plots, shaded (first, 2.0 MB) and via isolines (second, zoomed, 8.8 MB).

  • Velocity

Visualization via vector plots (vectors, 6.9 MB) in a zoomed area.
