Rotating propeller in a box for a medium Reynolds number (II)

Short description and remarks

The following simulation addresses flow in a chamber with a rotating propeller inside. From the right side, some flow is injected with unit velocity. There are three holes on the top and bottom and on the left side. The flow is transported via an interior propeller which rotates counterclockwise. The movement of the propeller is prescribed by the "Fictitious Boundary Conditions" only: All calculations are performed on ONE SINGLE mesh!!! This explains why the contour of the propeller is sometimes poorly represented, particularly if streamfunction or pressure plots are used!

Compare this simulation with the similar configurations in the `Virtual Album'!

Visualization

  • Velocity

Visualization via normalized (via color) plots (shaded, 1.2 MB, and vector, 8.7 MB) and "real sized" vectors (12.1 MB).

  • Pressure

Visualization via shaded pressure plots (1.1 MB) and via isolines (second, 7.6 MB).

  • Streamfunction

Visualization via shaded streamline plots (0.7 MB) and via isolines (8.7 MB).
