Short description and remarks

  • Engineering point of view:

`Shell and Tube' Heat-Exchanger are widely spread in the field of chemical engineering.Still it is not clear how to arrange the tubes inside the appartus in order to get a optimal heat-transfer-behaviour.Begining from a simple configuration with only one tube (Rad=1.5; area=pi*Rad^2). we studied case for 2x2 upto 5x5 tube arrangements for constant circumference and constant area.

  • Mathematical point of view:

We studied a 2D cutplane of the above described apparatus. Fluid flow calculation in a square of 4 units with four circles of radius 0.375, with the first circle located at x=1.33 & y=1.33 The calculation starts from rest. The flow is observed with the Reynolds number, Re=1,000.This simulation is part of a Software-Praktikum at the University of Dortmund in 2004'.

Visualization
