Comparison between simulations for different parameters (by C.M. Mueller) Back to >>`Moving flaps' for different flow configurations (by C.M. Mueller)<<

Compared are the configurations w=2, v=4 vs. w=8, v=4. The first column of images corresponds to the parameter values w=2, v=4, while the second one was obtained with w=8, v=4.

  • First Row:
As can be seen here, there are characteristic differences already in the velocity plot. The profile of the flow shows some disruptions at the edges of the flaps for the high velocity as would be expected in an experiment.

  • Second Row:
In the first stages of flap movement, the velocity experiences oscillations along the x-axis for w=8 (second column).

  • Third Row:
Now, the oscillating velocity can be seen in the w=2 simulation (first column).

  • Fourth Row:
The distribution of velocities is entirely different, and the sole difference in between the two simulations is the flap velocity.

Conclusion: The flow profile depends critically on the flap velocity as well as on the inflow speed, and the ratio between both!
