Within the SFB 708, subproject A5, an analysis of a grinding process in a microscopic scale has been performed.The cutting of a single grain through the material of a workpiece is modeled as a Two-body contact problem with an elasto-plastic constitutive law.

Optimal control



Another example was developed within the SFB 708, subproject B8. The pure simulative approach was extended onto an optimal control problem.
The goal is to minimize the difference between some wanted and the actual stress as well as to minimize the bodyforce, which induces this quantity. In this example a side condition is given by Signiorini's problem. A rigid obstacle given by the roll during incremental rolling acts on the boundary, while an elastic material law is used for the workpiece.
