Totally positive functions in sampling theory and time-frequency analysis
Abstract: Totally positive functions play an important role in approximation theory, statistics, and nowadays also in time-frequency analysis. In this talk I will present sampling theorems for spaces that are spanned by the integer shifts of a totally positive function. These are often used as a substitute for the bandlimited functions. A related problem are the spanning properties of time-frequency shifts. These questions go back to the mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics as formulated by von Neumann.
